Donald Trump of the United States and Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel are driving the Middle East ever deeper into the quagmire of an all-out regional war.
Trump has recently resumed attacks on Iran and is expanding the war against Iran on multiple fronts, including drawing Saudi Arabia into the conflict and bombing Iraq. This is intended to mobilize U.S. allies into war in order to bring the Middle East back under American hegemony. The horrific cost of this policy is being borne entirely by ordinary people across the Middle East.
Taking advantage of this situation, Netanyahu is accelerating his drive toward the complete occupation of the Gaza Strip. After violating the ceasefire agreement and resuming massacres and the blockade, he is now attempting to establish military control over the entirety of Gaza. In the West Bank, his government is supporting the horrific violence (pogroms) carried out by far-right settlers and the expansion of illegal settlements, driving Palestinians from their homes and livelihoods. At the same time, the bombing of Lebanon continues.
The so-called Gaza โBoard of Peaceโ recently launched by Trump is nothing more than a continuation of these war crimes. Contrary to its name, this body is not intended to achieve peace. Rather, it is merely a mechanism for forcing Palestinian resistance forces to disarm while institutionalizing Israelโs permanent occupation and colonial rule over the Gaza Strip. Carrying out occupation and massacres while demanding that an occupied people abandon their resistance is not peaceโit is the imposition of surrender.
Amid these developments, it has been revealed that the South Korean government is considering dispatching naval vessels to the Strait of Hormuz at the request of the United States. Until now, the Lee Jae-myung government has continued cooperation with Israel while effectively aligning itself with Trumpโs plan to colonize Gaza. This is a clear act of complicity in war and occupation. The South Korean government must not cooperate in any form with the war being waged by the United States and Israel.
Trump and Netanyahu seek to force Palestinians into submission through military power and starvation, while plunging not only the Middle East but people around the world into danger and suffering for the sake of their own hegemony. Yet for the past 78 years, despite brutal colonial occupation, displacement, and massacres, Palestinians have steadfastly remained on their land and have never ceased their struggle for liberation.
We, too, will never cease our solidarity with the Palestinian peopleโs struggle for liberation. And we will continue to fight to stop the reckless march toward war pursued by Trump and Netanyahu.
Trump and Netanyahu: Immediately stop the expansion of war, massacres, and occupation throughout the Middle East!
The United States and Israel: End your deceptive attempt to institutionalize colonial rule through the Gaza โBoard of Peaceโ!
No dispatch of South Korean naval vessels to the Strait of Hormuz! The South Korean government must not support the wars of the United States and Israel!
